What exactly is the proof?

Imagine we write our pick on a slip of paper before the match, seal it in an envelope and hang it in public. After the match we open the envelope. The pick cannot be swapped afterwards, because the envelope hung in plain sight. A SHA-256 hash is that digital sealed envelope.

We hang the envelope

We hash the signal content and publish the hash only (the HASH column). The content stays hidden. This happens before the price moves.

2AFTER CLOSING
We open the envelope

We reveal the full content plus the nonce (the CONTENT column). It is the exact text the hash was made from.

3YOU, NOW
You check the match

You hash the revealed content. If you get the same digest that was published, the content was not changed. One altered character produces a completely different hash.
